What We’ve Been Up To: Email Recap

We’ve had a busy June!  We are back from KetoCon and we’re still going through all the info and samples that we brought back.  It was a great conference once again, bigger and better than last year’s.  Next year’s KetoCon will be in Austin the last weekend in June.  Put it on your calendar and go with us!

Thank you to my friend Chad Marschik at Pure Synergy for having us at his studio to share our story of weight loss and wellness.  Chad and his crew are great personal trainers and are dedicated to helping people reach their health and fitness goals.  We met with about a dozen people there, a few who have already started this way of eating and others curious and thinking about starting.

And we went to Lincoln’s Doggie Delicatessen this week too.  This is one of our favorite new businesses in town where they help you feed your fur baby a raw meat diet for health and longevity.     Juli and Suzi are a wealth of info and they have great all-natural foods and treats for our pets so that we can avoid feeding them grains and highly processed foods.

Mark and I love meeting with groups to share our story of weight loss and wellness.  Last month one of our friends had us meet with her staff over a lunch hour as part of their wellness activities.  During these talks, we  talk about what’s happened to us, what we eat and don’t eat and why.  There are always lots of questions and we’re happy to share what works for us.

If you would like to know more about having a keto talk at your workplace, church, business, etc, let us know.  These are complimentary, we don’t charge for them.  And as always with keto, the only product we have to buy is our real, whole food groceries

KetoCon Vendors/Products
Speaking of products to buy, the market for keto products is skyrocketing.  It’s absolutely not necessary to purchase anything other than your groceries.   But KetoCon was rich with lots of new products to sample, so we shared a few of those at our Unity meeting this week:

Bunker Hill Cheese Crisps:  Very good cheese crisp crackers!  A few of their versions do contain sugar, so look for the keto-friendly sticker.  And caution, those peri-peppers are spicy HOT!!  I’m planning to use some of  them crushed and sprinkled on dishes that need a little zip.  And our favorite Parm Crisp company was there too, so generous giving out samples to the conference attendees.  You can find the big bags of Parm Crisps at Sam’s.  Hyvee also has a nice selection of cheese crisps in their deli section.

Eating Evolved:  Keto Cups are an intense dark chocolate cup filled with coffee (or original) coconut butter filling.  I love these!  Lightly sweetened with monk fruit, these are not for those who don’t care for the intensity of dark chocolate.  If you’re more into the sweet taste, their toasted coconut butter might be a better match for you.  It’s delicious!

Sogo Meat Sticks  Sogo was back at KetoCon again this year with a new flavor of meat stick, Chimichurri.  I’m not a big fan of meat sticks, but these are fresh-tasting and tender, not dry and chewy.  Finding a clean keto-friendly meat stick or type of jerky can be challenging, so these are a good find.

Pili Nuts  Pili nuts are grown in the Phillipines and have a buttery crunchy texture similar to macadamia nuts. At 2 carbs and 40 grams of fat, those macros are spot on!   Note the chocolate version contains coconut sugar, so is not keto-friendly.  Go for the original sea salt or the chili lime if you like spicy.

Vital Earth Minerals:  VEM is a vitamin company with extraordinary customer service.  They are familiar with the ketogenic way of eating and are so friendly and accommodating.  I still have several samples of their liquid formulas to give away, so let me know if you’d like one.

There were just too many products to include everything in one message, so stay tuned for more KetoCon vendor features to come.

Let’s see, what else?

For those asking for our favorite pizza crust recipe, you can find it here.

If you haven’t seen The Magic Pill yet, what are you waiting for?!?  Find some time to watch this eye-opening 90-minute documentary that “follows doctors, patients, scientists, chefs, farmers and journalists from around the globe who are combating illness through a paradigm shift in eating.”  It’s on netflix and amazon both.
